As a Fraser Valley family photographer, I get to meet some truly wonderful people—and sometimes I’m lucky enough to photograph them more than once. That was the case for this magical Jackson Farm Reserve family session in Maple Ridge with Sunni, Joleen, Kendra, Nevaeh, and their little scene-stealing pup, Louis.
A few months ago, Sunni and Joleen had a couples session with me, so when they booked this family shoot, I knew it was going to be good. These two are complete naturals in front of the camera—they know exactly how to move, how to connect, and most importantly, how to just be together. Their calm, easy energy made the whole session feel relaxed and fun, setting the perfect tone for everyone else.
We’d booked this session a few weeks back, but early in the week, the forecast started calling for less-than-ideal weather. Joleen was understandably a little stressed (been there!), but if you’ve lived in BC long enough, you know the weather can’t be trusted until, oh… maybe two hours before the session. Sure enough, we stuck to our original date and time, and the sky delivered pure magic.
Golden hour rolled in like a dream—wrapping the tall grass and open fields in warm, honey-toned light. Every direction we turned looked like it was straight out of a storybook. We played, we laughed, and we captured a mix of beautiful family portraits and those candid, in-between moments that make your heart full.
Kendra and Nevaeh brought so much personality to the session—big smiles, lots of laughter, and a dash of sibling energy that kept everyone grinning. And Louis? Let’s just say he knew exactly when to trot into frame and steal the spotlight.
By the end, we had that perfect mix of posed and unposed magic—photos that show not just what this family looks like, but who they are together. Sessions like this are why I love what I do: telling your story in a way that’s real, beautiful, and timeless.
