Some couples are just magnetic together, and Rebecca and Kurtlan are definitely one of those couples!
Their Derby Reach engagement session was one of those shoots where everything just seemed to fall into place. The weather was perfect, the light was beautiful, and these two were so much fun together that photographing them was incredibly easy.
There was plenty of laughing, lots of natural connection, and absolutely no shortage of those little moments that make engagement photos feel like them.
And honestly, that is exactly what I love about engagement sessions.
Why I Recommend an Engagement Session Before Your Wedding
If you are planning a wedding, you might be wondering if an engagement session is really necessary.
My answer? Absolutely.
Your wedding day moves FAST.
There are getting-ready photos, family photos, the ceremony, wedding party portraits, dinner, speeches, and a million little things happening throughout the day. While I will absolutely make time for beautiful couple portraits, an engagement session gives us something your wedding day simply can't:
Time.
Time to slow down.
Time to walk around together.
Time to laugh.
Time to get comfortable in front of the camera.
And most importantly, time for the three of us to get to know each other before the wedding day arrives.
For many couples, the first few minutes of a photo session can feel a little awkward. Most people aren't professional models, after all! But after a few minutes of walking, talking and having fun together, something changes. You stop thinking about the camera and start focusing on each other.
That's when the good stuff happens.
Getting Comfortable in Front of the Camera
One of the biggest benefits of an engagement session is getting to experience what it is actually like to be photographed together.
You learn how I work.
I learn what makes you laugh.
We figure out what poses feel natural and what doesn't.
And by the time your wedding day arrives, the camera isn't a stranger anymore.
Rebecca and Kurtlan made this especially easy. These two were so natural together that I barely had to do anything. They were playful, affectionate and completely comfortable being themselves.
Basically, they gave me exactly what every photographer hopes for!
From Langley Engagement Photos to Their Wedding Day
Their engagement session was the perfect little preview of what is to come.
Rebecca and Kurtlan will be getting married at GreenTee Golf Course at Westwood Plateau, and I already know their wedding day is going to be one heck of a celebration.
If their engagement session was any indication, there will be plenty of laughter, plenty of fun and lots of genuine moments between these two.
And I cannot wait to photograph it.

Of course, you'll end up with beautiful photographs from your engagement session. But I think the real value is what happens during the session.
You get to spend an hour or two together without a timeline.
No guests waiting.
No ceremony about to start.
No one asking where the rings are.
No wedding coordinator checking the clock.
Just the two of you enjoying being engaged.
And that's worth documenting.
