There are some weddings that just stick with you forever – and Meghan & Melissa’s wedding is one of them. From the moment they reached out, I knew we were going to have an incredible time together.
We first met in person (since they opted out of an engagement session) so we could chat about their wedding vision and, of course, so I could meet their sweet son, Levi. That meeting was full of laughs, stories, and excitement for their big day. Little did I know just how much joy this family would bring when the wedding day arrived.
August in Abbotsford brought the kind of weather photographers dream about – bright blue skies, warm sunshine, and not a single cloud in sight. It was also a spicy hot day, but that didn’t stop the magic.
Meghan & Melissa chose Jubilee Hall for their ceremony, and I couldn’t have been happier. The outdoor ceremony area here is one of my favourites – it’s surrounded by nature and offers the perfect space for family portraits without having to travel anywhere else. Guests laughed, cried, and celebrated these two incredible women as they said “I do” surrounded by their closest friends and family.
After the ceremony, I whisked the newlyweds away on an 18-minute drive to Ellwood Park, also known as Fish Trap Creek Park in Abbotsford. This little car ride was the perfect time to cool down from the summer heat before diving into portraits.
This park is one of my go-to Abbotsford portrait spots for a reason – dreamy lighting, lush greenery, and a few secret spots I absolutely love to shoot in. Meghan & Melissa were naturals in front of the camera, despite not doing an engagement session with me. We laughed (hard), got a little silly, and captured portraits that felt completely them.
Once we returned to Jubilee Hall for the reception, guests began spilling outside to enjoy the cooler evening air. That’s when I spotted it – the golden hour glow draping the lawn in the most beautiful light.
Now, if you know me, you know I’ll sometimes “hijack” the wedding timeline if it means we can make something even better. I asked Meghan & Melissa if they were up for moving their cake cutting and first dances outside, and they didn’t hesitate for a second.
It. Was. Perfect. The light, the laughter, the love – all wrapped in a golden glow that made every frame look like a dream. These golden hour shots are some of my absolute favourites from the day.
Meghan & Melissa, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your wedding day. You made my job feel like hanging out with old friends – full of laughter, joy, and genuine love. You two (and Levi!) will always have a special place in my heart. Here’s to a beautiful future together!
