Golden Hour Engagement Session at Jackson Farm Reserve with Ashley and Evan
Ashley and Evan’s engagement session at Jackson Farm Reserve in Maple Ridge was the perfect reminder of why I love these shoots so much. Golden hour gave us the dreamiest light, but what really stood out was the way these two leaned into the experience, laughed together, and allowed me to capture their connection in such an authentic way.
Here’s the thing—most couples who step in front of my camera are a little shy at first. It’s completely normal. An engagement session is often our very first time working together, and it’s natural to feel a little awkward or unsure of what to do. Add in the pressure of knowing the photos will live on as part of your love story, and suddenly you’re thinking way too hard about where your hands should go or how to smile.
That’s exactly why I love engagement sessions: they’re like a “break the ice” moment for us. My goal is to show you just how fun and relaxed getting your photos taken can be. These sessions are playful, lighthearted, and meant to feel like you’re just hanging out together—no stiff poses, no forced smiles. I’ll guide you, of course, but the best images happen when you two are simply being yourselves. By the end, my couples almost always tell me it felt less like a photo shoot and more like a fun date night. Then, when they see the images, they realize the art and emotion woven into each frame.
I also believe in giving engagement sessions the space they deserve. That’s why I don’t book more than one in a day. Every couple and every location has its own rhythm—sometimes the shoot lasts 40 minutes, other times we wander and play for two hours. I never want us to feel rushed or bound to a strict clock. Instead, I read the energy, knowing when you’re ready to wrap up or when you’re excited to try one more location.
Ashley and Evan’s session was the perfect example of this flow. Like many of my couples, they hadn’t had a professional photo session before, so there was a little uncertainty at first. But within minutes, they relaxed, laughed, and let their love take the lead. By the end, we’d created a gallery full of heartfelt moments that showcased not only their connection but also how much fun they had together.
Ashley and Evan, thank you for trusting me with your story. I am beyond excited for your wedding day and can’t wait to capture the next chapter of your journey together.
