There’s something so magical about spring engagement sessions in British Columbia, and Amy and Alex’s evening at Kilby Historic Site was the perfect example of that. Between the glowing golden hour light, the peaceful waterfront views, and an endless field of blooming buttercups, this session honestly felt like something out of a dream.
Amy and Alex were completely effortless together, and those are always my favourite kinds of sessions. The way they laughed, moved naturally, and connected with each other made my job incredibly easy. You can instantly tell when two people are truly comfortable together, and these two had that energy from the moment we started shooting.
One thing I absolutely love for engagement sessions is when brides-to-be wear long, flowy dresses that move beautifully in the wind and photograph so naturally in golden hour light. Amy looked stunning in her lace dress with a romper underneath — romantic, elegant, and perfect for this location. Her outfit fit the soft, whimsical feel of the evening so well and added so much movement to their photos along the water and through the buttercup fields.

If you’re looking for a location that offers a little bit of everything, Kilby Historic Site is such an underrated gem for engagement sessions in the Fraser Valley. You get waterfront views, open fields, tall grasses, rustic pathways, and beautiful golden sunsets all in one location.
That said, timing here is everything. I highly recommend planning engagement sessions at Kilby during the spring or early summer before peak camping season begins. Once summer hits, the area gets much busier with campers and visitors, which can make sessions feel crowded. This time of year was honestly perfect — quiet, peaceful, and full of beautiful blooms.
Weekday engagement sessions are also always my recommendation for popular outdoor locations like this. There are fewer crowds, more privacy, and it creates such a relaxed atmosphere for couples to fully enjoy the experience together without feeling rushed or watched.
Counting Down to Their Wedding at Estate 248
Amy and Alex are getting married this September at Estate 248 and I honestly could not be more excited. It’s one of my favourite wedding venues in the Fraser Valley with the most beautiful modern garden-party feel, and it fits these two perfectly.
After spending the evening with them during their engagement session, I already know their wedding day is going to be full of so much love, laughter, and genuine moments. September honestly cannot come soon enough.
